B Sus2
2nd Fret · A-Shape BarreMoveable A-shape sus2 rooted on B at fret 2 — index barres fret 2 from the A string up, ring and pinky add C# and F# at fret 4. Mute the low E. Fully moveable to any root.
B Sus2
Top-Four-String VoicingA compact voicing on the top four strings around fret 9–12 — root B on the D string at fret 9, F# on the G string at fret 11, B on the B string at fret 12, C# on the high e at fret 9. Mute the low E and A.
An easier B
The full B major barre chord is tricky. The A-shape Bsus2 covers similar ground and, because it has no 3rd to fret, can feel a little more forgiving.
Hear the suspension
Play B major, then Bsus2, then back. The C# in Bsus2 wants to rise to the D# of B major — that pull is the heart of a suspended chord.
No open strings
B has no open-string root in standard tuning, so both Bsus2 shapes are fretted. The A-shape barre at fret 2 is the most dependable.
Use it as a moveable shape
The x-2-4-4-2-2 barre is fully moveable — slide it down a fret for B♭sus2 or up to fret 3 for Csus2.
Mute the low E
Both Bsus2 voicings skip the low E. Let the side of your index finger rest against it to keep it quiet.
About the Bsus2 Chord on Guitar
The Bsus2 chord is built from three notes: B (the root), C# (the major 2nd), and F# (the perfect 5th). It is a B major triad with the 3rd suspended — the D# is replaced by the C# a whole step above the root — so it sounds open and neutral rather than clearly major. Because B has no open-string root in standard tuning, every Bsus2 voicing is fretted, and the A-shape barre is a friendly substitute for the sometimes-tricky full B major chord. This page covers two voicings: a low moveable A-shape barre and a top-four-string form. Every diagram is interactive and playable with acoustic guitar sound.
