Tips
  • Tap on the main beat — where you would nod your head or tap your foot.
  • Keep tapping for 8–16 taps; the average settles as you go.
  • Pausing for 3 seconds starts a fresh measurement automatically.
  • If the number feels twice as fast or slow, check the half-time and double-time readings.
How to Use
  1. Play the song anywhere you can hear it — your phone, speakers, vinyl, or a live performance. No file or microphone is needed.
  2. Tap the pad or press any key in time with the main beat — where you would naturally nod your head or tap your foot.
  3. Keep tapping for 8–16 taps. The BPM readout is a running average, so it gets steadier with every tap.
  4. If the number feels twice as fast or slow as the song, read the half-time or double-time value shown under the BPM instead.
  5. Lost the beat? Just stop — after a 3-second pause your next tap starts a fresh measurement. Or press Reset to clear everything.
  6. Use the tempo: copy the BPM in one tap, or press "Open in Metronome" to practice at the tempo you just tapped.
About this tool

About the Tap BPM Counter

Guitar Tool Hub's free tap BPM tool (also called a tap tempo counter or tempo tapper) measures the tempo of any music by tapping. Play the song anywhere — on your phone, on vinyl, at a gig — and tap the pad or any key on your keyboard in time with the beat. The tool times the gaps between your taps and averages them into a live BPM readout, along with the average interval in milliseconds, a classical tempo marking, and half-time and double-time alternatives. When you have the number, copy it or send it straight to the Metronome to practice at that tempo. Nothing to upload and no microphone needed — it works with any music you can hear.
