Tips for Playing the Fsus2 Chord

An easier F

The full F barre chord is hard for beginners. The compact x-x-3-0-1-1 Fsus2 covers similar musical ground with far less effort, and the open G string adds a bright ring.

Hear the suspension

Play F major, then Fsus2, then back. The G in Fsus2 wants to fall to the A of F major — that pull is what makes a suspended chord.

Keep the index light

In the open shape the index barres only the B and high e strings at fret 1. A light, accurate barre keeps both notes ringing.

Learn the moveable A-shape

The x-8-10-10-8-8 barre form is fully moveable — slide it down two frets for E♭sus2 or up to fret 10 for Gsus2.

Mute the bottom strings

Most Fsus2 voicings start from the D string. Let unused low strings rest under your fingers so they stay quiet.

About this tool

About the Fsus2 Chord on Guitar

The Fsus2 chord is built from three notes: F (the root), G (the major 2nd), and C (the perfect 5th). It is an F major triad with the 3rd suspended — the A is replaced by the G a whole step above the root — so it sounds open and neutral. Because the full F major barre chord is one of the harder beginner shapes, the compact Fsus2 is a welcome, easier alternative that still anchors the key of F. This page covers three voicings, from a compact open-position form to a mid-neck top-string shape and a fully moveable A-shape barre. Every diagram is interactive and playable with acoustic guitar sound.
