About the Bass Tab Maker
Guitar Tool Hub's bass tab maker is a free bass tab editor that runs in your browser. Write tab for 4, 5 and 6-string bass in any of 9 tunings, on a rhythm grid of 8th or 16th notes in 4/4, so every note has a place in time — which is what lets it play your tab back. Type fret numbers, use the on-screen keypad on a phone, or tap notes straight onto the bass neck. Add hammer-ons, pull-offs, slides, bends, vibrato, dead notes and ghost notes, and hear each one. Play it back from 40 to 240 BPM with a click and loop, then copy it as plain-text tab, download a .txt file, or share a link that opens your tab.

Frequently Asked Questions
Click a spot on the tab and type the fret number, or tap the note on the bass neck under the tab and it is written in at the cursor. Each line is a string, with the highest string on top, and each column is one 8th or 16th note, so where you put a note is when it is played. Press Play to hear it, then copy the tab as text, download it as a .txt file or share a link.
Yes. Pick the tuning at the top: standard 4-string, Drop D, half step down, full step down, Drop C, BEAD, standard 5-string, 5-string high C or standard 6-string. The tab redraws with the right number of strings. Switching from 4-string to 5-string keeps your notes on the E, A, D and G strings and adds a low B.
Yes. Press Play and the tab plays back at bass pitch at any tempo from 40 to 240 BPM, with an optional click and loop. Techniques are played too: hammer-ons, pull-offs and slides run into the next note without a new pluck, bends and vibrato move the pitch, dead notes are a short thud and ghost notes are played softly.
Select the first note and press h for a hammer-on, p for a pull-off, a forward slash to slide up or a backslash to slide down, and it prints the way tab is written, for example 5h7. Press b for a bend, the tilde for vibrato, x for a dead note and g to put a note in brackets as a ghost note. On a phone, the same marks are buttons on the keypad.
Type the two digits quickly, one after the other: 1 then 2 is fret 12. Frets go up to 24. To write fret 1 and then fret 2 on the next note instead, move the cursor between them with the arrow keys.
Yes. On a phone or tablet, a bar at the bottom of the screen holds Play, arrow buttons, undo and a keypad with the fret numbers and techniques, so you never need the phone keyboard. You can also tap notes straight onto the bass neck.
Your tab saves in your browser as you work, so it is still there when you come back on the same device. To keep a copy or move it to another device, download it as a .txt file or copy the share link, which holds the whole tab in the address. Nothing is uploaded or stored on a server.
Yes. It is free, runs in your browser and needs no account or download.
