G Sus2
10th Fret · A-Shape BarreMoveable A-shape sus2 rooted on G at fret 10 — index barres fret 10 from the A string up, ring and pinky add A and D at fret 12. Mute the low E. Fully moveable to any root.
A ringing open shape
The open Gsus2 leaves the A, D, and G strings open, so it rings brightly. Let those open strings sustain under the fretted G and D notes.
Hear the suspension
Play G major, then Gsus2, then back. The A in Gsus2 wants to rise to the B of G major — that pull is the heart of a suspended chord.
Mind the muting
In the open shape, keep every string sounding. If the B string at fret 3 is hard to reach with the open strings ringing, arch your fingers higher.
Learn the moveable A-shape
The x-10-12-12-10-10 barre form is fully moveable — slide it down two frets for Fsus2 or up two for Asus2.
Use it for sparkle
Gsus2 adds a modern, open sparkle to a strummed G. Try slipping it in just before resolving to a plain G major.
About the Gsus2 Chord on Guitar
The Gsus2 chord is built from three notes: G (the root), A (the major 2nd), and D (the perfect 5th). It is a G major triad with the 3rd suspended — the B is replaced by the A a whole step above the root — so it sounds open, ringing, and neutral. Gsus2 is a bright, modern colour in the key of G, where it adds sparkle to a strummed progression before resolving back to plain G major. This page covers three voicings, from an open shape to a mid-neck top-string form and a fully moveable A-shape barre. Every diagram is interactive and playable with acoustic guitar sound.
